Avalanche Peak Hike

Our dream of climbing an actual mountain was realized in Yellowstone National Park on the Avalanche Peak Hike. This hike took us 4.5 hours of strenuous, high inclines. This trail tested everything in me (Chelsea), but it was so worth it!

About This Hike

Time: 4 hours round-trip                                        Difficulty: Strenuous/Advanced

Most of the trail is through scenery like this.

The trail starts off in the woods with thin dirt trails that wind upwards and have steep inclines at the beginning. The trail flattens out more once it reaches about half-way up the mountain.

After the trees, the trail goes back to being very steep, and this time the incline is on slate all the way up to the peak. It was so crazy! With nothing to hold on to except for our walking sticks, it was a vertigo-filled experience on my end.

But so worth it! Look at that view!  We could see for miles and miles and it was such an incredible feeling.

We did it!

We loved this trail! For it being our first mountain peak trail, we struggled a bit but still managed to make it the whole way up and back down. We can’t wait to climb another one.

What trails have you enjoyed?

Much love.
